ABOUT US
By the early 2000s, te reo Māori and our identity as Māori were gaining strength.
More positive spaces were opening where our people could stand proud in our language and culture.
In 2014, the first National Māori Basketball Tournament was held, a kaupapa to bring whānau
together, represent your iwi proudly, and speak te reo Māori through sport.
More than just a tournament, it was a movement - a way to uplift our people, strengthen te reo Māori
and raise funds for a Māori men’s and women’s teams to compete nationally and internationally.
It’s about whakapapa, whanaungatanga, and creating a space where being Māori is at the centre, on and off the court.
